Hi, I’m Heather and I’m glad you’ve happened on the Word Blog.
When not reading or writing, I enjoy cycling, snapping pictures, cooking, drawing, and climbing. But I do seem to spend an extraordinary amount of my time with words…. I’ve worked in publishing and academia, both of which have revealed fascinating aspects of the coded world of language. I have a love of the English language and a knack for clearly communicating ideas to readers and students alike.
These days I’m an editorial assistant who works in-house for a publisher in Toronto. Before I forayed into the publishing world, I taught English usage and style to undergraduate students at the University of Guelph’s Learning and Writing Centre, University of Victoria’s Faculty of Business, and Queen’s University’s Faculty of Applied Science.
I can’t seem to get enough of words, so I created this blog to revel in their rules, their disorderliness, and their astonishing variety. Here you’ll find new vocabulary, entries on usage and rules, book recommendations, and more. I invite you to send in any grammar questions you’d like answered and tune in for upcoming entries on the life of words!
Thanks for reading!
